Life coach or Psychologist?

You may be asking yourself which is best for you – traditional therapy (counselling or psychology) or unconventional support such as life coaching? This is why it's important to understand what life coaching is and know the difference. Also in understanding what life coaching is you may be able to get a lot more out of our sessions together.

Life coaching is for people who are already functional and want more from their lives, relationships and careers. One of the defining differences between life coaching and traditional therapies is that life coaching picks up where therapy leaves off. That means life coaching takes people that are doing OK and helps them achieve their full potential and feel great! Whereas traditional therapy assists people to achieve everyday functioning, which may involve deep inner work and assist resolving mild to severe psychological problems. Life coaching does not even touch on psychological issues. Instead, life coaching looks at where you are today and how you can get to where you want to go tomorrow in the most efficient way! If you are looking for fast (and sometimes daring) changes, life coaching may be suitable for you.

Sarah's Story: I initially tried traditional therapy when I was recovering from a series of toxic relationships that led me to an abusive relationship and eventually to a stint of being single followed by the desire to find the right man for me. At that time psychology and psychiatry appeared to be my only option for recovery and support. But WHY? Just because I had those relationships didn't mean I had a mental illness or there was something wrong with me! I started looking into other options and eventually learned about love addiction, life coaching and psychotherapy and my knowledge quickly built to change my life. I'm now sharing this knowledge through my coaching and programs, to help others. I then decided to get my qualifications because I found in my healing that life coaching didn't look at what was wrong with me, it didn't judge, it didn't look back. Instead it took me from where I was, quickly helped me break through old patterns and changed my life – and thankfully, changed the romantic partners I chose to be with! It was positive, practical and forward-moving.

What is a life coach?

A life coach partners with you and helps to find answers to your questions, closure to unresolved issues and offers the support you need to make your own decisions in moving forward from where you are today. If you choose to work with a life coach, it's important that you are fully present during the sessions. To help this process, eliminate distractions before each session. As a reminder, Sarah offers a check-in at each session.

What can I expect?

Life coaching is very positive, proactive and practical: it focuses on actions and outcomes, with an emphasis on accountability and follow-through. As your life coach, I am responsible for the process – but as the client, you are responsible for the outcomes and results. After each session, you will leave with action-steps to take before the next session or ongoing steps. These steps can be challenging, however perseverance pays and the overall process builds confidence, self-esteem, self-worth and enhances satisfaction, particularly when outcomes are successful.

In making a commitment to life coaching, you are making a commitment to yourself, and if you choose to work with us, we wish to congratulate you for taking the first step to making a lasting change in your life.
